In short? Hasbro said a bunch of series were connected, and it's a little wonky in places where it all connects.
Bumblee's history spans 3 video games, 2 books, 1 short story, 1 animated series and 1 movie. Some of these are abbreviated and sourced (particularly in the Personality section) as follows:
WFC >> War for Cybertron (Video Game)
BaTP >> Bumblebee at Tyger Pax (Short Story)
FoC >> Fall of Cybertron (Video Game)
Exodus >> Transformers : Exodus (Novel)
Exiles >> Transformers: Exiles (Novel)
TP >> Transformers Prime (Animated Series)
PR >> Transformers Prime Predacons Rising (Animated Series Movie)

OOC Information
AGE: 26
OTHER CHARACTERS PLAYED: None
IC Information
CHARACTER NAME: Bumblebee
AGE: Unknown - cited to be one of, if not the youngest, on the team.
(Cybertronians like Bumblebee have incredibly long life spans over thousands upon thousands of years. All that is hinted at is that Bumblebee is relatively young for a Transformer. He was one of the final generations born during the beginning of the Great War, which has been cited to be approximately several million stellar cycles... or several million years old. )
CANON: Transformers (WFC/AC/Prime)
CANON POINT: Season 03, Ep 03, "Deadlock" -- Just after he falls into the Synth En of the Omega Lock
FAMILY TYPES:
- Virus buster - Bee's a stand up bot, inclined to do what is morally and justifiably right. He deeply believes in others, particularly his teammates and especially his leader and friend, Optimus Prime.
- Wind guardians - Bee's tried to prove himself and his usefulness to the team during the series. Much of what he does is with a strong purpose.
- Dragon's Roar - Bee has been known to make the occasional impulsive decision, unable to sit back and wait for things. He never turns down any missions. He's also likened by his teammates to his leader Optimus. He's also taken charge before when current leadership (Magnus and Optimus) were out of commission
APPEARANCE:
- Robot Form: Some sources state that Bumblebee is approximately 6 meters, or 20 feet. Other sources say that Bumblebee is 16' as per his movie counterpart. His paintjob is primarily black with yellow accents at his shoulders, chest, head, hips, arms and feet. He has blue eyes (optics). He has silver face plating, glowing yellow highlights.
- Car form: As a car, Bumblebee takes the form of the sleek, black muscle car Urbana 500. It is primarily black with yellow racing stripes and a supercharger.
- TT Human Form (Picture here): As a human, Bumblebee reflects his robot self with blonde hair and blue eyes (which retain their Transformer glow). He's slightly taller than average at at 5'9, resembling a young man in his late teens or early 20s. He's slender, but muscled. The clothes he initially appears in the digital world is a motorcycle track suit that resembles his robot form.
Bumblebee is a spirited youth, whose optimism serves as a morale booster at times when things are grim (BaTP). He's an eager, go-getter, always willing to volunteer for missions that others hesitate to accept (WFC). While he can maintain a soldier's composure, he's also got a smart mouth, particularly towards his enemies. Before his voicebox was damaged beyond repair, he had the audacity to mouth off to Megatron during what was said to be a brutal interrogation (BaTP and TP s02 ep04).
He's also not above causing some mischief. He's persuaded teammates like Bulkhead to let him get back on the field when sidelined (TP s02 ep04) and has been previously roped into trouble by others. More specifically, the children convinced him to do a bit of illegal drag racing (s01 ep06). Whoops.
More to his reckless side, Bumblebee's self worth comes from being useful to the team. Being unable to transform left him restless and impulsive, leading him to charge into enemy territory alone and to take on enemies when he was otherwise sidelined (TP s02 ep04.) His damaged voicebox is also a sore spot, as most of the humans they work with can't understand him. He's attached to the sound of his voice, and sensitive remarks about his current mode of communication (series of beeps, buzzes and clicks) put him on edge (TP).
Despite being on an alien planet, Bumblebee has grown very fond of humans, particularly the human he's been charged to protect, Raf Esquivel. He's been known to watch cartoons, race toy cars and even dance (He does a mean Robot. Obviously) . Many of these are things that Bumblebee was never able to experience as a youth, having been caught up in the war so early in his life.
While Bumblebee is a playful, spirited youth, make no mistake. Bumblebee is a soldier, through and through. Bumblebee was born neck deep in conflict and strife, and has never known a world untouched by war. He is a seasoned soldier, whose fiery spirit has earned him a name in several important events (The Stalemate at Tagan Heights, the Battle of Kalis). Bumblebee even has a bit of a reputation with other bots. Blades (of Transformers Rescue Bots) stated that Bumblebee is 'legendary' (though he's admittedly biased). Bee is a capable messenger, and scout, having braved an enemy riddled battlefield to deliver important intel (WFC). He's well accustomed to working on a team, including as a Stealth Team operative with Arcee. This led to him rising rapidly through the ranks and into Optimus Prime's inner circle (BaTP).
Bumblebee has no problem with authority, often following orders from Optimus or UltraMagnus without question. He follows proper protocol, like following proper speed limits on Earth (TP s02 ep20). However, sometimes when the occasion calls for it, Bumblebee will strike out his own, taking on enemies when the opportunity presents itself if he believes its best (TP s01 ep01).
Bumblebee is good at heart (or spark, rather). He has a moral code, which includes not eliminating unnecessary enemies (sparing the miner class in TP) and protecting innocents who get caught up in battle (TP s01 ep1). He's also patient, opting to wait until their return to a restored Cybertron before being promoted from Scout to Warrior, despite already qualifying for the rank (TP s03 ep06). He displays a touch of sentimentality, stating that the promotion would be more meaningful on his homeworld.
Bumblebee has a quick mind. Others, including Optimus have mentioned that Bumblebee can see solutions where others cannot (BaTP and PR). He's outsmarted numerous Decepticons, tricking Airachnid that he was immobilized when he wasn't (TP s01 ep15), convincing KnockOut to reveal information about his former compatriots (PR), destroying Skyquake (TP s01 ep01), bluffing Predaking that an otherwise useless piece of metal was a powerful relic (PR), and convincing Starscream that the powerful relic in his hand was anything but (PR), and even convincing Megatron to give him the cure for Optimus when infected with Cybonic Plague (TP s01 ep08).
Bumblebee is loyal, almost to a fault. This is particularly so in the case of Optimus, for whom Bumblebee nearly sacrificed himself for on numerous occasions. He took a near-fatal hit for him in WFC, was willing to brave the mindscape of the Decepticon Leader to search for a cure, and even struck Megatron down as he was about to deal a killing blow to Optimus. He's also loyal to the autobot cause, defending Tyger Pax and the operation to jettison the Allspark into space an away from Decepticon hands. There, he was captured, and interrogated. He gave no intel, and as a result, had his voicebox ripped out.
In terms of leadership... It makes sense that being around a capable, and awe inspiring leader like Optimus would eventually rub off on Bumblebee. Others have often spoken well of Bumblebee's leadership abilities, including Arcee and Smokescreen (PR). When UltraMagnus and Optimus were otherwise engaged or injured, Bumblebee served as temporary leader for the team. Despite his time as such, Bumblebee has no desire for authority, and understands the heavy burden that leadership carries (PR). He often deflects the notion entirely (PR). Authority over others isn't something that Bee relishes. What he truly values most? Trust and loyalty. His family.
Optimus has made numerous mentions of their unit functioning less like an army and more like a family. It's an accurate description as any, as Bee holds many close relationships among the team. He sees Arcee as an older sister, a sentiment that Arcee returns as she's called Bee 'family.' He's also aware of her dark history, and rescued her from captivity just shortly after her partner was executed in front of her. Bulkhead serves as a capable battle partner, though Bee sometimes plays on his sympathy to get what he wants. At times, Smokescreen gets on Bee's nerves, tends to be reckless and impatient... but many times, his improvised behavior ends up saving the day. He's incredibly grateful to smokescreen for restoring their leader, given the choice. Wheeljack also serves as a capable teammate, despite his frequent coming and going. UltraMagnus is someone whose counsel Bee respects, and Bumblebee has no trouble following his orders. It is Ratchet and Optimus that Bee feels the greatest debt towards. Ratchet not only helped to revive and heal his charge, Raf, but he's restored his voicebox, and even brought him back from the brink of death with his advances in Synthetic Energon. With Optimus, he's followed the through the entirety of the war and his loyalty has never faltered. He looks up to Prime, though he deeply respects the heavy responsibility Optimus feels on a daily basis. Miko, Darby, June and Agent Fowler are constant fixtures in the base, ones that Bumblebee consider far more formidable than the Deceipticons give them credit for. While his interactions with them are not as frequent as those of Raf, he cares for them and their safety. And as for Knock Out? Boy is that ever a special case. Despite their previous semi-rivalry, Bumblebee seems to hold no ill will towards Knock out towards the end of the series.
